Even though the post serves the purpose of holding up the pergola, they just don't have to remain a post. Get creative and turn that pergola into something unique!
By boxing in the posts, they are now used as flower boxes. Add a shelf 12" deep inside the box, add lining and fill with soil and flowers.
Other ideas: create a solid surface around the top to use for holding items. Extend the top out a bit and you've created a table top. Great for those who like to entertain a lot of people.
With a little imagination and creativity, a post can be more than just a post.
